Mayor & Council commit 80k to Second Stage Housing Project
Thank you Mayor and Council for supporting women and children at risk! We are one step closer to a violence free community!
Last council meeting the Mayor and Council committed $80,000 to our Second Stage Housing project. This second-stage project is an estimated 2-million dollar undertaking.
WHAT IS SECOND STAGE HOUSING?
Second Stage housing is a post-crisis living solution for women and their children who have fled their homes from domestic/intimate partner violence. This level of supportive housing offers a daily on site support coordinator, 24-hour security monitoring, and transitional programming. Residential and community programming services include education and awareness initiatives.
WHY DOES MIRAMICHI NEED THIS?
Here at the house, we are seeing a worryingly increasing rate of women and children at risk returning to their abusers due to the lack of safe, affordable housing.
On a daily basis, at the Miramichi Emergency Center for Women we encounter and serve women and children in varying degrees of crisis. It is a true fact that domestic violence does not discriminate; our client demographics show this. No story goes unheard and we hope, in the spirit of heart of caring, the Community of the City of Miramichi join us in assisting so many of our clients and their children who are fleeing their home in search of safety for themselves and their children.
We ask the community kindly consider a generous and very important contribution to enable families the freedom to live a life free from violence.
